Newbuildings Primary School, Londonderry

Shared Education

8th Jun 2026
Today, alongside St Columba's Primary School, we continued our Healthy Me topic by discussing ways we can give back to the Earth. The children learned about reducing food waste and explored how excess food can be disposed of responsibly using compost bins.
We then used food that was past its sell-by date to create some fun and imaginative artwork. The children looked at the work of the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who famously used fruits and vegetables to create portraits and images, and used his work as inspiration for their own creations.
We also put our leftover potatoes from Sports Day to good use by transforming them into little animals. The children showed wonderful creativity and imagination throughout the activities, and as you'll see from the photos, we all had great fun too!
