Practical Maths in P7B

7th Nov 2016

We have been looking at perimeter in class. We found out that perimeter is the total distance around an area. We started looking at the perimeter of rectangles. We found out we could calculate the perimeter of a rectangle using the formula (L + B) x 2.

We explored the perimeter of different objects within the class. We had to accurately measure these and remember to include units of measure in our answers.

We were then set a challenge. We had to find the perimeter of the assembly hall using 3 different forms of measure. We used a trundle wheel, a metre ruler and our feet! With our feet we measured the length of one foot, found how many of these were the length and breadth of the hall and then converted these into a standard form of measure.

We all had 3 different perimeters of the hall using these 3 forms of measure. We then used excel and put our results in the spreadsheet and then showed this in graph form. We were exploring how silmlar the different forms of measure were.
